GreenPAK™: Integrate 20 Simple Analog, Digital, and Discrete components, in 20 minutes, for 20 cents
Renesas, a leading provider of battery and power management, Wi-Fi®, Bluetooth® low energy, Industrial edge computing and, MCU solutions, announced the expansion of their popular GreenPAK™ solution the market’s smallest GreenPAK device to include an I2C communication interface.
The GreenPAK products are extremely cost effective programmable mixed-signal ASICs that are customer designed with GreenPAK Designer Software. The GreenPAK products feature in many cases sub uA active current consumption, nano second response times, schematic based design and simulation, and tools that allow prototyping and programming when connected to a standard PC USB port. GreenPAK products are widely adopted in the industry with hundreds of millions of units shipped annually to many of the large and trend setting IoT, computing and industrial OEM’s.
Using GreenPAK Designer Software and GreenPAK Development Kit, designers can create and program your perfect custom circuit in minutes. Check out the GreenPAK Cookbook (PDF) for 70+ ideas on how to get started with popular circuit solutions.
GreenPAK Benefits Over Discrete Design
Integrate and Differentiate
Implement new features and functionality in one device as small as 1.0 mm x 1.2 mm
Reduce Power Consumption
Extend battery life by powering fewer discrete devices and dynamically managing power within the GreenPAK
Shrink PCB Footprint
Fewer components and less routing complexity
Adapt Design as Needed
Adapt to changing requirements quickly and spin new prototypes in minutes
Faster Time to Market
Development tools exploit the power of silicon without NRE charges and long lead times
Secure
Circuit implementation is not visible to competition
GreenPAK Design reduced components by:
- 5 ICs
- 2 NMOS transistors
- 14 passive components
GreenPAK™ is a cost-effective non-volatile memory (NVM) programmable device that enables innovators to integrate many system functions while minimizing component count, board space, and power consumption.

Frequently asked questions
Renesas supports production programming of GreenPAK devices in quantities down to the order minimum quantity.
The primary benefits for GreenPAK are:
Flexibility: because GreenPAK is programmed in minutes, your design can be quickly and easily changed to adapt to new requirements and correct system bugs. Changes that in the past would require a board spin can be made in minutes on your desktop.
Low Power: GreenPAK designs typically run at a few microamps in standby, and typically use less than 100 milliamps average in active mode. The architecture of each GreenPAK device is optimized to give you maximum control over power consumption.
Small Size: It is common that the circuitry replaced by GreenPAK is 5 – 10 times larger board area than the GreenPAK.
The quiescent current is defined as the current for the design when all inputs and outputs are static, and oscillator and analog blocks are in non-operational mode if they are used in the design. Very low current consumption is made possible by GreenPAK’s capability to dynamically turn on oscillator and analog blocks for the time during which they are required, and then turn them off during periods they are not used in the design.
